What should the U.S. do about illegal immigrants?

 

The U.S. should support the actions that President Barack Obama is taking to make the immigration system easy, fair, and success. He said, “Immigrants remain in the shadows.”

Even enough immigrant people get work permit, they will not receive the same benefits than Americans. However, immigrant people contribute to the economy in the U.S. They are employed according to the government I-9s requirement, then they are paying with check where automatically are take out the taxed for the Social Security and Medicare.

I think the U.S. should vote in favor for immigrants to get works permits or permanent residence or citizenship. Immigrant people are contributing to the economy, looking better opportunities for a better life, and looking better education for their children.

 In 2012 Latinos voted for President Barack Obama who won the presidential election with 51% of total popular vote.

Latin people voted in favor of Back Obama, who deposited their dreams and hopes, to have an amnesty or work permits to stay legally in this country and have better opportunities for jobs, education, valid ID’s, and driver’s licenses.  But on May 11, 2011, many young students were benefit with the Dream Act, where they got temporary legal status if they attend to college, graduate for High School or get a GED in the U.S.

The rest of the immigrant waited patiently until November 20, 2014 where President Obama announced new actions to improve an “immigration system more fair and more just.”

The President Barack Obama gave a great hope for many immigrant people currently living in the U.S. He also started talking about reinforcement border for people who are violating the laws. However, he said, “It would have doubled the number of border patrol agents. While giving undocumented immigrant a pathway to citizenship if they paid a fine, started paying their taxes, and went to the back of the line.”

In the article Immigration Enrique You and Me by Nicholas Kristof, New York Times, November 23, 2014. He said, “What most defines the 11 million undocumented immigrants in America is not illegality but undaunted courage and ambition for a better life. What separate their families from most of ours is simply the passage of time --- and the lottery of birth.”

In the same point with the speech of the President Barack Obama when he said, “My fellow Americans, we are and always will be a nation of immigrants. We were strangers once too… That’s the tradition we must uphold. That’s the legacy we must leave for those who are yet to come.”

 What would opponents say?

According of some points of opponents in the article Immigration Enriches You and Me, “And Harper’s Weekly despair that these immigrants are “stepped in ignorance” and account for a disproportionate share of criminals. I think the President Obama was very clear to explain first about enforcement borders to our security. He said the laws are against “Felons, not families. Criminals, not children. Gang members, not a mother who’s working hard to provide for her kids.”  

I know they are many pros for the U.S. and benefits for immigrant people it they are giving authorized work permits. On the other hand, Americans can be worried because immigration can change the jobs where they are now, lost their jobs, or have less wages. But, I think they are wrong because they are Americans, they are citizens, and immigration people only are going to have a temporary legal status, such Obama explain only people who qualify, but it is not a citizenship. Immigrant people will not receive the same benefits than Americans have.  The only grant for immigrant people is that they are not going to be deported.
 

  

Personally, I would say thank you to the President Obama, for this opportunity where 5,000 million immigrant people will be benefited, where families will be stay tranquil with their children in this country, people will have better jobs, education and better ways of life.

 

                                                                                                                      

My culture

My country is very famous for its traditional food such as black mole, tamales, tortillas, hot chocolate, and cheese. The communities are very hospitable. If visitants come any home, the people always offer food by serving plates immediately, but if you say "no" sometime they are offended. People think you don't like to join with poor people. My culture is the same with many cultures, with a variety of religions, traditions, languages, and food.

I am from Mexico and my home state is Oaxaca. The name Oaxaca comes from the Nahuatl word Huaxyacac. Huax means gourd and yacac at the top. So Oaxaca means "at the top of has a famous festival called “The Guelaguetza”, which takes place every year in two consecutive Mondays following July 16th in the Mexican state of Oaxaca. Also known locally as (Mondays on the Hill). A beautiful cultural event dating back hundreds of years before the arrival of the Spanish, and it remains as a mainly characteristic of Oaxacan culture. This festival attracts visitors from around the world and allows knowing the culture of the whole state because all the regions present folkloric dance and song, the cultural exchange extends to culinary delights. Regional food specialties are offered of each region.

The word "Guelaguetza" comes from the Zapotec Indian language and means an offering or gift. For many years, the area's indigenous peoples honored the goddess of maize (corn) through ceremony and ritual. Each year at the height of the rainy season (mid-July), the people would gather and pay tribute to Centeotl, “the corn goddess.” These supplications were performed to assure a bountiful coming harvest. Currently, indigenous communities gather to present their native cultures, mainly in the form of music, costumes, dances, and food. In the true spirit of Guelaguetza, the dancers at the end of their performance throw gifts into the crowd. These offerings represent their region's specialty and might include hats, flowers and even pineapples. It is the most famous indigenous gathering of its kind in Mexico.The indigenous people in Oaxaca are from many different cultures but Zapotec and Mixtec are the two biggest ethnic groups. There are also a great number of other groups, and all have their own unique traditions and speak diverse languages.

Poverty in my country

Currently the government is giving more help to the rural areas. They are helping elderly people with resources for food and medicine. Also, is giving more scholarships for students to get a better education than in the past. The President Enrique Pena Nieto is doing great improvements for the well-being of the country and the people. I hope the future of my country will be much better.

I am from Mexico and my state is Oaxaca. My home state is located to the south of Mexico. It's very sad to find poverty mainly in the area of indigenous people. My state is divided by seven ethnic groups but in those groups exist a lot poverty. The people have to work land to grow corn, beans, and coffee to survive. They also exchange their production for another primary food they need. The worst thing it can be found is a regions that sell young girls to be married by people that paid money for them.
I think we should do to end global poverty, it is starting by the government send resources for parents to get better paid jobs, the opportunity for young people to study, and help for woman to be independent people and protec them from domestic violence.
